Introduction
Ever wished you could just ask someone "Who are my newest customers?" or "Which deals are closing this month?" without having to dig through reports and click through multiple screens? That's exactly what you'll be able to do once you connect Claude AI to your HubSpot customer database.
Why This Matters for Your Business
Think about how much time you spend logging into HubSpot, clicking through menus, filtering lists, and exporting data just to answer simple questions. Now imagine being able to ask those questions in plain English from Claude.ai and getting instant answers—like having a personal assistant who knows your customer database inside and out.
HubSpot recently made it possible for AI assistants like Claude to safely peek into your customer information. Don't worry—Claude can only read your data, not change anything. It's like giving someone view-only access to a Google Doc.
What You'll Be Able to Do
After following this guide, you'll be able to ask Claude things like:
- "Show me all customers who signed up this month"
- "Which companies haven't responded to us in over 30 days?"
- "List all open support tickets from premium customers"
- "How many deals are in the pipeline worth over $10,000?"
- "Create a summary of our top 10 customers by revenue"
"Claude can only view your data—it can't modify, delete, or mess anything up. Your information stays safe while you get instant answers to your questions."
What You'll Need Before Starting
Before we begin, you'll need a few things ready:
- Claude AI Pro or Team account - The paid subscription that includes integrations (sign up at claude.ai)
- HubSpot account - Any plan works, and you'll need admin access to set up the connection
- 10 minutes of time - That's all it takes to get everything connected!
Don't have Claude Pro yet? The integration feature is only available on paid plans, but you can start a free trial to test it out before committing.
Step 1: Add and Connect HubSpot
Let's connect Claude to HubSpot. This is done right from your web browser—no downloads or installations needed! The whole process flows from adding the connector straight to authentication.
Add the Connector and Authenticate
- Go to claude.ai and log into your Pro or Team account
- Click on your profile icon (your initials or picture) in the bottom left corner
- Select "Settings" from the menu
- In the left sidebar, click "Connectors"
- Click the "Browse connectors" button
- Under the "Web" tab, find and select "HubSpot"
- Click "+" sing
- A dialog box will appear immediately asking you to connect to HubSpot
- If you have multiple HubSpot accounts, choose the one you want to connect and click "Choose Account"
- You'll see a permissions page showing what Claude can access (contacts, companies, deals, tickets, etc.)
- Review the permissions—remember, everything is read-only!
- Click "Connect app" or "Authorize"
That's it! The connection is now established. You should see a green checkmark or "Connected" status next to HubSpot in your Connectors page. The whole process takes about 2 minutes.
Step 2: Enable HubSpot in Your Conversation
Now for the fun part—let's actually use your HubSpot connection!
Start a New Chat with HubSpot Enabled
Here's an important step many people miss: you need to enable HubSpot for each conversation where you want to use it.
- Start a new conversation in Claude
- Look for "Search & Tools" or a similar option (usually near where you type your message)
- Click it and you'll see your available connectors
- Toggle HubSpot to "on" or select it from the list
- Now Claude can access your HubSpot data for this conversation!
Important: You only need to enable HubSpot once per conversation. All messages in that chat will have access to your HubSpot data.
Ask Claude About Your Data
Now try asking it about your HubSpot data. Here are some examples to get you started:
"Can you show me my 10 most recent contacts from HubSpot?"
"List all deals that are in the 'negotiation' stage"
"How many support tickets are currently open?"
If everything worked correctly, Claude will access your HubSpot account, fetch the information you asked for, and present it to you in a clear, easy-to-read format. You might even be surprised at how quickly it responds!
Pro Tip: Be Specific
The more specific your questions, the better results you'll get. Instead of "show me contacts," try "show me contacts created in the last 7 days with the tag 'premium customer'." Claude can handle complex queries easily!
What Information Can Claude See?
Once connected, Claude can look at (but never change or delete) the following types of information from your HubSpot account:
- Contacts - All your customer and lead contact information
- Companies - Business and organization records
- Deals - Sales opportunities and pipeline data
- Tickets - Customer support and service requests
- Products - Your product catalog and details
- Orders & Carts - Purchase information and shopping cart data
- Invoices & Quotes - Billing and proposal documents
- Subscriptions - Recurring customer subscriptions
Remember, Claude can only view this information—it's completely read-only. Think of it like looking at a photo album; you can see the pictures but you can't change them.
Managing Your Connection
Sometimes you might need to update or disconnect your HubSpot connection. Here's how:
Disconnect HubSpot
If you want to remove the connection:
- Go to Settings → Connectors
- Click on "Your Connectors"
- Find HubSpot in the list
- Click "Disconnect" or the trash/remove icon
- Confirm that you want to remove the connection
Reconnect or Update Permissions
If Claude stops being able to access your HubSpot data, or if you want to change what data Claude can see, simply disconnect and reconnect using Step 1 above. The authorization process only takes about 2 minutes!

When Things Don't Work (Troubleshooting)
"I don't see HubSpot in my connectors list"
If HubSpot doesn't appear when you browse connectors:
- Make sure you're on a Claude Pro, Team, or Enterprise plan (free accounts don't have connectors)
- Try refreshing the page or logging out and back in
- Check if your organization has restrictions on which connectors can be added
- Make sure you're looking under the "Web" tab in Browse connectors
"Access Denied" or "Permission Error"
If Claude says it can't access your HubSpot data:
- Go to Settings → Connectors → Your Connectors and check if HubSpot shows as "Connected"
- Make sure you enabled HubSpot in your conversation (see Step 2 - this is a common mistake!)
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting (see "Managing Your Connection" above)
- Make sure you're a HubSpot admin—regular users might not be able to authorize connectors
- Check if your HubSpot plan supports API access (most do, but some older plans might not)
"HubSpot Connection Not Found"
If Claude says it can't find your HubSpot connection:
- Did you enable HubSpot in this conversation? Check "Search & Tools" and make sure HubSpot is toggled on
- Go to Settings → Connectors → Your Connectors to verify HubSpot is still connected
- Try starting a new conversation and enabling HubSpot again
- If the connector shows an error icon, try disconnecting and reconnecting
"Request Timed Out" or Slow Responses
HubSpot has limits on how many requests you can make at once. If things are slow or timing out:
- Wait 30 seconds and try again—you might have hit a rate limit
- Try asking for less data at once (e.g., "last 10 contacts" instead of "all contacts")
- Check HubSpot's status page to see if they're experiencing issues
